Students recognized for holiday card contest Four Alexander County students were recognized for their artwork submissions in the holiday card contest. Evelyn Barnette, Ashton Curtis, Olivia Perkins, and Shaere Delgiugice. These four entries were selected from numerous submissions to the contest. Their artwork is displayed on the school system holiday cards. Evelyn Barnett is a second-grade student at Ellendale Elementary School and is the daughter of Lee and Rebecca Barnett. Ashton Curtis is a fifth-grade student at Stony Point Elementary School and is the daughter of Laurin Curtis and June Durham. Ashton has won this contest two other times. Olivia Perkins is an eighth-grade student at East Alexander Middle School and is the daughter of Donna and LeighAnn Perkins. Shaere Delgiugice is a ninth-grade student at Alexander Early College and is the daughter of Toby and Marvel Delgiudice. As a part of the contest award, the winners receive a framed copy of their artwork on the card, 30 cards to send to friends and family, a $25 gift card, and a goody bag
The latest update on the status of WAMS students from the accident is below. As reported yesterday all but two students were released by our last report yesterday. One was released late yesterday evening. The one remaining student's update is below. The student hospitalized following the bus accident yesterday at Baptist is recovering well, receiving care, and remains in stable condition. Preliminary reports from the parent indicate the student will be going home within the next few days. West Alexander Middle School bus 159 overturned this morning around 7:30 a.m. near Icard Ridge Road and Bulldog Lane. A second vehicle was involved in the accident, and it has been reported that the driver has been charged with a DWI. Nineteen students were on the bus; thirteen were transported to area hospitals as well as the bus driver. All students, except two, have been released from the hospitals. The two students who were later transported to Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem are in stable condition.
