    Eight educators recognized for National Board Certification - Pictured left to right: Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Hefner with Michelle Motley, Jessica Eckard, Melissa Pierce, Melanie Watson, Joshua Bowles, and School Board Member Scott Bowman. - Two teachers from Alexander County Schools obtained certification for the first time, Joshua Bowles (Alexander Central High School) and Melanie Watson (East Alexander Middle School). Six staff members were honored for renewing their national certification. They include Anna Bedzinski (Bethlehem Elementary School), Michelle Motley (Bethlehem Elementary School), Jessica Eckard (Ellendale Elementary School), Shelly Mitchell (Alexander Central High School), Melissa Pierce (Alexander Central High School), and Heidi Biddle Minton (Central Office).   • Jimison Wins Spelling Bee; Lee is Runner-up

    Eighteen students representing Alexander County’s elementary and middle schools were invited to the stage at Alexander Central Auditorium Tuesday, Feb. 4, to compete for the top honor of Spelling Bee Champion. West Alexander Middle School took top honors with both the winner and runner up representing the school. Brianna Jimison won the contest by correctly spelling the word officiant.
