Hello Parents! First of all, I would like to thank you for the opportunity to know and work alongside of your child! We truly do have Awesome Wildcats here at Wittenburg, and I consider it an honor and a blessing to be here!
The 2014-2015 school year will be my first full school year here at Wittenburg. I joined the Wittenburg team in October of 2014. I am excited to see what this first full year will hold for each of us.
The "School Counselor" has changed since I was an elementary student-much like everything else! So what is the function of the School Counselor in today's school setting? A School Counselor wears many hats. Your child will visit me weekly for guidance where we will explore feelings and emotions, friendships as well as conflicts. We will discuss issues such as how to be responsible and trustworthy as well as how to abstain from peer pressure. I like to think of guidance as the class where the student is the subject. In guidance, counselors simply assist the students to become the best they can be and to shine like the star that they are.
School counselors also assist students in small group and individual settings. Small group settings may focus on social skills and self control. Your child picks the focus of the individual settings. It may be that the student is having difficulty with peers or with his or her own feelings. A school counselor assists a child in exploring and expressing an array of feelings and/or conflicts.
I view myself as a School Counselor as an advocate for the children. Please inform me of any opportunities to assist your child!
