I grew up in Alexander County and attended Hiddenite Elementary and East Junior High School. I graduated from Alexander Central High School in 1998. I was accepted to Appalachian State University and studied Special Education (K-12) from 1998-2002. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree and got accepted into the Master's Program for Reading Education (K-12). I received my Master's degree in December of 2003. I was hired as the Title I Reading teacher at Wittenburg Elementary School and worked there the 2004-2005 school year. Mr. Cash hired me at Sugar Loaf in July and I served as the Title I teacher until 2011. At that time I accepted the position as the Exceptional Children's teacher.
I met my husband, Marty, in 1999 and we got married in 2005. We have 2 daughters, Reese and Harper. Reese is in 2nd grade at Sugar Loaf and Harper will begin Kindergarten in the Fall. We live in the Ellendale community with our black Labrador Retriever, Angus. I am very fortunate to have Katie Steele as my Student Teacher for the rest of the school year! She will be a wonderful asset to our classroom.
