CAPT Mark W. Kleinhenz assumed duties as the Senior Naval Science Instructor at Alexander Central High School on 20 November 2020.

CAPT Kleinhenz is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. He received a 4-year NROTC Scholarship and attended The Citadel.  He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics / Business and was commission as an Ensign in the Supply Corps in May 1991. After leaving active duty in 1999, he graduated with a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Florida in 2000. He received his Diploma upon graduating from the United States Naval War College of Distance Education - Command and Staff Program in June 2013.

CAPT Kleinhenz’s active-duty sea tours include Assistant Supply Officer / Decommissioning Supply Officer of USS VIRGINIA (CGN-38), and Supply Officer of USS WEST VIRGINIA (SSBN 736) during which he earned his Surface and Submarine Warfare Supply Corps Officer designations. He served ashore for two years as Business/Financial Manager Intern in PEO - Undersea Warfare in Crystal City, Virginia. 

During his Reserve career, CAPT Kleinhenz was mobilized in 2006 and served as the Coalition Operations Officer in Multi-National Forces - Iraq. CAPT Kleinhenz’s previous Reserve assignments include:  Training Officer - NR FISC HQ, Jacksonville, FL.  Commanding Officer - NR NAVAIR TERM DET 307, Greensboro, NC.  Executive Officer and Commanding Officer - NR FISC DET 107, Charleston, SC.  Supply Officer (N4) - NR CNE CNA C6F Maritime Partnership Program Detachment 513, Chicago, Illinois.  Commanding Officer, NR FISC Yokosuka Detachment C in El Paso.  Supply Officer (N4), NR CNE CNA C6F Detachment 802 in Atlanta, GA.  Supply Officer (J4) NATO ACT HQ Detachment in Norfolk, VA.  Commanding Officer - NR DFAS Detachment 105 in Cleveland, OH.  Commanding Officer - NR Fleet Logistics Center Bahrain HQ NR LRC Detachment 120 in Atlanta, GA.  Executive Officer – NR CPF LRC HQ 120 in Pearl Harbor, HI.

CAPT Kleinhenz’s personal awards include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (with a two bronze oak leaf clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (with two gold stars), the Navy Commendation Medal (with three gold stars), the Navy Achievement Medal (with two gold stars) and Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal.

CAPT Kleinhenz is married to Lisa Willingham Kleinhenz from Bowling Green, KY.  Together they run MWK & Associates, Inc – a retail consulting company – in Statesville, NC.  They have three children.  Olivia works at Lowe’s Companies, Inc. in Mooresville, NC, Chase works at Citizens Bank in Boston, MA and Grant is a Sophomore at Appalachian State University. They have three labs - Ms. Liberty, Watson, Shadow - and one Jack-Chi mix – Maxie.
