Artist / Teacher Bio: Kat Seno is a professional artist who began at the prestigious arts high school, Perpich Center for Art Education. She earned her BFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and MA in Teaching + Learning in Art + Design from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). Through RISD, she studied internationally at the major London museums (V&ATate ModernBritish Museum, etc.), Mint Museum Uptown in Charlotte, National Gallery of Art in DC, with an assistantship at the RISD: Museum of Art. Twice, Kat has researched materials and techniques and made art at the Musee d'Orsay and Louvre in Paris, France. She taught landscape painting at the Lime Park Art Centre and Cottages that is just outside of Belfast, Ireland. More recently, Kat worked for six years as the Ryan Learning Center Assistant at the Art Institute of Chicago and lead-curated Chicago's I AM Logan Square gallery. Kat has invested the past two years as a founding faculty member at The Experiential School of Greensboro and assumed her newest role teaching art at Alexander County High School (ACHS) in 2020. 

Ms. Kat's Fall'20 Class Schedule: 1st Block: Planning (8:00 am-9:35 am), 2nd Block: Art 1 (9:40 am-11:10 am), 3rd Block: Art 2: Painting + Drawing (11:15 am-1:25 pm, Lunch 12:50 pm), 4th Block: Art 1 (1:30 pm-3:05 pm) 

Supply List of materials to bring to every class: (1.) Face mask, (2.) at least two sharpened pencils, (3.) 8"x5" or 9"x12" spiral bound sketchbook that has at least 50 or more drawing pages, (4.) pink or white eraser, (5.) 12" or 18" ruler, (6.) colored pencils set, (7.) pencil punch, (8.) individual pencil sharpener, (9.) and a pair of scissors is optional.

September 7-11, 2020 (4th week of school)

◼︎ 9/7, Monday - Labor Day (no school or assignments :)

◼︎ 9/8, Tuesday - Come to class ready to learn. We will begin painting grey scales and studing the artist, Alma Thomas. 

◼︎ 9/9, Wednesday - Step 1: Sign into class attendance sheet before 2:00pm everyday to be counted as present CLICK HEREStep 2: Watch the linked YouTube video to learn or review the differences between organic and geomentic shapes. You will not be drawing what is shown on the video, but using it as a guide to complete the next step CLICK HEREStep 3: Download the instuctions for your assignment CLICK HEREStep 4: Look at these two example of how to complete the assignment for today. The first shows the image before color is added CLICK HERE. The second example shows the image once cool and warm colors are bugun to be added CLICK HERE. Step 4: Email your work to Ms. Kat before the end of the day to get full credit. If work is handed in late, your grade will be brought down for ten points for each day that it is not handed in. If you need an extension, please email Ms. Kat to explain.

Instructions can be downloaded CLICK HERE. It shows the relationship that colors have with each other. Colored pencils are reccomended for this project and they were included on the supply list for this class. If you do not have them at home, crayon is a great alturnative. Use what you have and email your work to Ms. Kat by the end of the day today. Assignments will be deducted ten points for each day that they are late. If you need an extension, please request it and explain why before the deadline. Step 3: Write your name, block and group in the subject of an email and attach a photo of the completed assignment. Email it to Ms. Kat before the end of the day on Friday.

 

August 31- September 1st (third week of school):

◼︎ 8/31-9/1, Monday-Tuesday Step 1: At the beginning of class, Ms. Seno will collect the Checkerboard Perspective drawings that we worked on last week. If you need a refresher, this link has the instructions for how to create the background CLICK HERE. Mr. Cornwell made a video explaining how to draw a sphere that you can DOWNLOADArt 1 is required to add three spheres to their background. One small, one medium, and one large to show perspective. Art 2 is only required to add one sphere, but still needs to have a small, medium, and large elements that look like they are floating in the foreground, middle ground, and background which is around the vanishing point in the center of your page as we discussed at length in class. Step 2: In class on Monday, you will be completing a brief quiz that does not require studying beforehand. It is an assessment to see where you're at. No pressure! Step 3: You will be creating value finders in class that we will use to draw with next week. If you like to listen to music or a podcasts, it is a good time to bring earbuds to class and listen on your Chromebooks while you draw. 

◼︎ 9/2, Wednesday - Step 1: Sign into class attendance sheet before 2:00pm to be counted as present CLICK HEREStep 2: Look through all of the past assignments on this page and complete any that are unfinished. Today is a catch-up day and the last day to hand in incomplete assignments for credit. Students who are already caught-up do not have anything to hand in unless they want to revise or redo a past assignment :) Please email Ms. Kat if you have any questions or concerns. Students with an incomplete after this point will have their parents or guardians contacted at home.

Set a timer on your phone and choose if you want to do it in one sitting or two. Step 3: Write your name, block and group in the subject of an email and attach a photo of the completed assignment. Email it to Ms. Kat before the end of the day on Friday. 

 

August 24-28 (second week of school):

You will use your sketchbook, a pencil and eraser everyday that you come to art class. We are going to build on what we learned last week with making patterns and turn them into an optical illusion.
