        NC Immunization Requirements School Entry Rules
Immunizations are required by law for entry into North Carolina schools. This includes specific requirements for starting kindergarten, entering 7th grade and entering 12th grade. You will have 30 days from the first day of school to provide an up-to-date immunization record or your child will be excluded from school until the required proof is provided or you show your child has begun the immunization process.    Please check with your healthcare provider or Alexander County Public Health @ 828-632-9704.  
  • Preschoolers: If you have a child entering kindergarten in the school year 2015-16 or later, they will now be required to receive a second dose of Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine. They will also be required to receive their fourth dose of Polio vaccine after their 4th birthday. These changes are in addition to existing requirements. 

 

  •  Rising 7th Graders: Students entering 7th grade in the school year 2015-16 or later are now required to have one dose of Tdap vaccine (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis) and one dose of MCV  Vaccine (Meningococcal conjugate)  prior to the start of 7th grade or before turning 12 years of age, whichever comes first.

 

  •  Rising 12th Graders: Students entering 12th grade in the school year 2020-2021 or later are now required to have a booster dose of MCV Vaccine (Meningococcal conjugate)  prior to the start of 12th grade or before turning 17 years of age, whichever comes first.
