Substitute Teaching in Alexander County Schools

25-26 Substitute Training Modules "CLOSED"

26-27 Substitute Training Modules will Reopen July 20, 2026

Thank you for your interest in Substitute Teaching within Alexander County Schools.  Substitute Teachers are divided into two categories - Licensed ($137.50 per day) and Non-Licensed ($112.50 per day).  A Licensed Substitute Teacher must hold a North Carolina Teaching License (expired is acceptable).  A Non-Licensed Substitute Teacher must be at least 18 years of age and have a High School Diploma (GED is accepted).  The App Garden Module Training is good for the Current School Year 25-26  only.  Taking the modules is a requirement every year to stay active in our Substitute Database.  After the first year of subbing, you will take the Returning Sub Modules the following school year.

What are the Requirements:

  • Hold a high school diploma and be 2 years removed from high school graduation for K-8 and 4 years removed for 9 -12 positions.
  • Pass your App Garden Training Modules
  • Have a clear Drug and Background Check
  • Be approved for employment by the Board of Education.
