Superintendent Assumes Duties
A new school superintendent in Alexander County is actively at work. Dr. Bill Griffin was sworn in at a special called meeting of the Alexander County Board of Education Monday.
Dr. Griffin started the day by naming Dr. Alisha Cloer as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Auxiliary Services. He also named Stephanie Reep as the new principal at Bethlehem Elementary.
Griffin will meet with directors, principals, and staff in the next few weeks to plan for the year ahead.
“Number one is to meet with my leadership team and figure out what we need with our strategic plan and what goals we have that are needed by our Board of Education. Once I get those things detailed, hopefully before convocation and retreat, I’ll have something outlined exactly for my plan of focus and where Alexander County Schools needs to go,” said Griffin.
Prior to his start as ACS superintendent, Griffin served as assistant superintendent of Human Resources in Caldwell County. He has 28 years of experience in education. He also served as a director in Alexander County Schools from 2015-2018. Griffin has also served as a principal, assistant principal, teacher and coach.
Griffin was joined by his wife, Meredith, as District Court Judge Dale Graham officiated the brief ceremony. Several area elected leaders were on hand for the event including: NC Senator Eddie Settle, Sheriff Chad Pennell, County Commissioner Ronnie Reese, soon-to-be NC House Member, Blair Eddins, and Town Council Member Jack Simms.
Griffin and his wife have three boys.

Dr. Alisha Cloer assumed duties as Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources and Auxiliary Services Monday, July 1st. Formerly, Cloer served as an executive director in Alexander County Schools for six years. Cloer has also been a principal in Alexander and Iredell Counties for a total of 14 years. Cloer started her career in education as a business teacher.

Also starting in a new role on July 1st, Michelle Hinkle. Hinkle will be the assistant to superintendent Griffin helping with board and community relations. Prior to her being in the Central Office, Hinkle worked as the data manager at Bethlehem Elementary.
