The pantry’s function is to help ensure that low-income ACHS students and their families have sufficient food in their homes. Distribution of the food will be accomplished as needed by sending food home with students in their backpacks or by giving it directly to those families who wish to pick it up during school hours.
Participation is confidential and available by appointment with the school social worker, Kathy Jones. A short application must be completed by the student or guardian once yearly. Mrs. Jones may be reached directly by phone at (828) 635-3403 or (828) 632-7063 Ext. 2260.
ACHS has been serving as an official food pantry for ACHS students and their families since 2011. It is the only school to do so in Western North Carolina. This resource was made possible by grants from the Unifour Foundation Inc. Endowment and the Abner Pope and Peggy B. Shuford Donor Advised Fund and a partnership with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC and the Alexander County Habitat for Humanity.
